Québec is facing a systemic crisis fuelled by decades of underfunding, centralization and privatization. It’s time to change course – and we have bold, concrete solutions to suggest in order to put the public system back on an even keel. We’ll be presenting a new idea every month until the day of the provincial election on October 5, 2026.

 OUR DEMANDS

A bOLD IDEA FOR JUNE

It seems as if providing Québec senior citizens with caring, accessible and affordable living environments should go without saying. But governments have let our collective capacity crumble by underfunding the public system and letting private residences take up more and more space.

The outcome is fewer accessible spots, skyrocketing costs for families, and in some cases, a requirement to more away from your community to have a spot. In 2026, the APTS is suggesting a clear solution: give back to public CHSLDs the means of providing a safe and dignified old age for everyone.

Why we should rely on public long-term care facilities?

Listening to people on the ground

“I’m sick and tired of the way they talk about the lack of spots in nursing homes as if it were some kind of fatality. When an old person has to leave their region, their loved ones and everything they’re used to because they need care, that’s not an accident – It’s the outcome of political choices. On the ground, we do everything we can to support families, but we can’t make up for years of underfunding public CHSLDs. Parties that aren’t willing to backtrack on that won’t be getting my vote on October 5.”
