April 28 | International Workers’ Memorial Day
April 25, 2025

On April 28, 2025, the APTS marks International Workers’ Memorial Day. Let’s take a moment to come together to honour the memory of those who have been killed, been injured or gotten sick because of their job. It’s also a day to remember and stand with their families, who are collateral victims.
April 28 is a day of reflection, solidarity and engagement. It’s a chance to pay tribute to workers who have died and to those who live every day with the consequences of a work-related accident or occupational disease. It’s also an opportunity to address how we can improve ways of identifying and eliminating risks. Prevention in occupational health and safety (OHS) is one of the APTS’s top priorities. Identifying risk situations, reporting them and communicating about them are courses of action that we need to pursue in order to make workplaces safer.
April 28 is also a chance to reiterate our commitment to working with employers to make workplaces into safer and healthier places that respect workers’ physical and psychological well-being. We’re continuing our joint and inter-union work to institute the prevention and participation mechanisms that the health and social services system can now access thanks to the Act to modernize the occupational health and safety regime.
April 28 is a day to remember that occupational health and safety prevention is a responsibility to be shared in solidarity, and that every aspect of it must be addressed by workplaces. Let’s work together to make our workplaces safe by identifying, reporting and helping to eliminate risks.
