Labour shortage in Outaouais | The APTS obtains the renewal of medical imaging premiums - APTS

Longueuil – The APTS (Alliance du personnel professionnel et technique de la santé et des services sociaux) announces it has reached an agreement to renew premiums to address the critical staffing shortage in medical imaging in Outaouais. This year, the premiums are being expanded to include nuclear medicine technologists. But the situation is still precarious despite the union’s progress, largely because of the region’s proximity to Ontario.

“Our members in medical imaging and nuclear medicine work with commitment and professionalism to provide essential services to Quebecers,” said APTS president Robert Comeau. “Obtaining the renewal and expansion of these premiums is a source of pride for the APTS, because they help retain expertise in Outaouais, despite the far more advantageous pay conditions in Ontario that put enormous pressure on Québec’s public system.”

The agreement provides measures to reduce the gap with Ontario, including an annual lump-sum payment of between $18,000 and $22,000 depending on the hospital and a premium of 10% of the salary for the summer, valid until March 30, 2028.

The APTS again encourages the government to implement lasting solutions rather than increasingly relying on ad hoc measures in times of crisis, a need Premier Christine Fréchette recognized during the CAQ leadership debate on March 21.

“This agreement is definitely great news for the region, but it doesn’t solve the underlying problem,” said APTS provincial representative for Outaouais Stéphanie Léger-Roussel. “Do we have to wait for a further drain of expertise before we act? The APTS is ready to get down to work now to agree on lasting solutions.”
