Day of Mourning to Honour Workers Killed or Injured at Work
April 27, 2026
On April 28, we mark the Day of Mourning to remember workers who are victims of work-related accidents or suffering from occupational diseases. On this international day of remembrance, the APTS pays tribute to all those affected, including families, who are often collateral victims.
Paying tribute also means taking action. And taking action means choosing prevention – every day, in every workplace.
Occupational health and safety is everyone’s responsibility. The APTS encourages you to take concrete action for prevention by reporting risks, staying informed, getting involved on your occupational health and safety (OHS) committee and taking part in initiatives to demand better OHS management by the employer.
A persisting injustice
Year after year, the health and social services system is already overrepresented in employment injury statistics. And with the new permanent OHS system coming into force in October 2025, the government has deliberately excluded the health care and education sectors from that system. This means that despite heightened risks, workers in the health care system still don’t have the same prevention mechanisms as the rest of Québec workplaces.
This is why prevention remains a core APTS demand to build healthy, safe work environments that respect the physical and psychological well-being of all workers.
Nobody should have to lose their life or their health when they’re trying to earn a living.
