Union representation in health and social services | The APTS welcomes Minister LeBel’s announcement, but remains vigilant
December 4, 2024
Longueuil – The APTS (Alliance du personnel professionnel et technique de la santé et des services sociaux) welcomes the intention announced today by Treasury Board president Sonia LeBel to walk back the imposed reorganization of union representation in the health and social services system, as part of a forthcoming bill to amend the negotiation process in the public sector.
“Last year, we denounced the reconfiguration of job classes without any consultation of employees,” said APTS president Robert Comeau. “This morning’s announcement from Minister LeBel is a positive sign. We will continue to fight for union representation that reflects communities of interest defined by and for members, as required by the Labour Code.”
The union will remain vigilant about the impact the bill could have on the public sector negotiation process. Once it is tabled, it will study its provisions and their impact, and propose improvements. It will also continue the reflection process to adapt union activities to the fact that Santé Québec is now the sole employer in the health and social services system, to ensure the strongest defense possible of the rights and interests of every member.
