The APTS obtains additional premiums for youth protection
October 1, 2024
Longueuil – With the increasing challenge of attracting and retaining Director of Youth Protection (DPJ) employees, the APTS (Alliance du personnel professionnel et technique de la santé et des services sociaux) announces that it has reached an agreement with the CPNSSS (Comité patronal de négociation du secteur de la santé et des services sociaux).
This exceptional measure – which applies until 2028 – offers financial incentives for certain job titles during critical periods, guaranteeing the continuity of essential youth services. A lump sum amount will be offered to employees who work in receiving and processing reports, intake, assessment and referral, and the application of measures.
“This agreement represents significant advances: additional premiums of $140 to $170 per full overtime shift when waiting lists reach a critical level,” said APTS president Robert Comeau. “This recognizes the dedication of employees and the crucial aspect of the youth mission. I would like to thank the APTS team, who work tirelessly to improve working conditions for our members.”
Nevertheless, the APTS believes new ideas are needed to tackle the problem at the source. “The government needs to find a global approach to solve the problem of attracting and retaining employees,” said Sébastien Pitre, APTS officer for youth centres and treasurer. “It can’t just keep reacting and merely add new premiums whenever there is a crisis.”
This initiative also spotlights the other sectors with worrisome waiting lists, such as mental health, intellectual disabilities and medical imaging.
“We need to make sure Quebecers continue to have access to quality of services that remain free of charge by implementing lasting solutions that will reduce waiting lists throughout the health and social services system,” said Robert Comeau.
