Victory for APTS members in the Outaouais: $22,000 premium extended to medical imaging technologists throughout the region - APTS

Longueuil – The APTS (Alliance du personnel professionnel et technique de la santé et des services sociaux) is happy to announce a new victory for its members. After intensive discussions with the Québec government, the $22,000 premium initially made available only to some hospitals in the Outaouais has now been extended to the entire territory, which includes institutions in Wakefield, Pontiac, Hull and Gatineau.

“The new agreement is a huge victory for all medical imaging technologists working full time in the Outaouais,” said APTS president Robert Comeau. “We pulled out all the stops to make sure that this premium, already available to some, would be extended to all of our members. Medical technologists truly deserve to be recognized for the essential work they do, and this is a first step towards a fairer salary for all professionals throughout Québec. This announcement shows that we’re getting results thanks to the strength of our commitment and efforts. We’ll keep on fighting to defend our members’ rights, here and everywhere else in Québec.”

The extension of the premium is a direct response to the acute need for qualified personnel in the Outaouais, especially in a context where retaining skilled employees is a major issue.

“This decision is a turning point for the Outaouais,” said APTS vice-president Joël Bélanger. “It will help stabilize teams and make it easier to ensure continuity in terms of care. Medical imaging technologists are at the heart of the health care system, and this premium is a significant acknowledgement of the value of their work. We’re proud of what we’ve achieved – this will help make working conditions more attractive and answer the growing needs of Quebecers in the region.”

Retaining employees is a problem that is particularly acute in the Outaouais because of higher salaries in nearby Ontario. The new premium provides essential leverage to attract and retain health care professionals.

“We’ve always been clear about the absolute necessity of providing our members with competitive working conditions and benefits,” said Guylaine Laroche, president of the APTS Outaouais local executive. “Our technologists are deeply committed to providing services for people in the Outaouais, and we needed to offer compensation in keeping with that commitment. We’ll keep on fighting to make sure all our members can benefit from appropriate recognition throughout the territory.”

This new victory confirms the APTS’s status as a key player in negotiations with the government, both in the Outaouais and at the provincial level.

“We’ve achieved significant progress for our region’s medical imaging technologists,” concluded Christine Prégent, APTS provincial representative for the Outaouais. “There is still work to be done to ensure equal treatment for all, but this new premium is a big step in the right direction. And we’ll keep on fighting for a fair distribution of resources throughout Québec.”
