Technologists Week | crucial expertise at the heart of care
November 3, 2025
Longueuil – From November 2 to 8, the APTS (Alliance du personnel professionnel et technique de la santé et des services sociaux) will be focusing on the 2025 edition of Technologists Week. This week is an opportunity to highlight the indispensable work technologists carry out as caring professionals with a unique expertise in medical imaging, nuclear medicine, medical electrophysiology and radiation oncology.
“If we want to recruit and retain the personnel needed to ensure the best possible care in our public system, we have to acknowledge the value of technologists’ work,” said Robert Comeau, APTS president and medical imaging technologist. “Whether it’s a pregnancy ultrasound, a diagnosis for cancer or heart problems, or radiation therapy, the dedication we bring to our job is an essential part of accessible, high-quality services for Quebecers. It’s time our role was fully recognized.”
Technologists are professionals who play a key role in diagnosis, treatment and follow-up for service users. Their skills are core elements of the care provided by the public system, and their contribution deserves to be understood and valued.
The APTS notes that technologists’ conditions of practice must improve if we want to guarantee accessible, high-quality services. That means:
- highlighting the value of their professions and developing ways of bringing in new recruits in order to attract and keep technologists’ expertise in the context of a labour shortage;
- establishing reasonable schedules to provide them with conditions that respect their health, their family responsibilities and their professional commitment, including schedules for on-call duty, atypical shifts and training placements;
- recognizing their contribution to critical care through premiums adapted to the reality of their work.
Recognizing technologists means investing in the accessibility and quality of cutting-edge care and services. Throughout Technologists Week, the APTS will reassert its commitment to making their voices heard and achieving the working conditions they deserve.
