A new APTS Executive Committee to meet the challenges of our public system - APTS

Québec City – The APTS (Alliance du personnel professionnel et technique de la santé et des services sociaux) has unveiled the composition of its Executive Committee for the coming term, following elections held during its Convention, which wraps up today at the Québec City Convention Centre.

Robert Comeau was re-elected for a third term as APTS president. He will be joined by a seasoned team that is fully committed to defending workers’ rights: Émilie Charbonneau (1st vice-president), Christine Prégent, Steve Garceau, Isabelle Mantha and Carl Verreault (vice-presidents), Pascale Leclair-Gingras (secretary) and Sébastien Pitre (treasurer).

With the theme At the crossroads: rethink, resist, rebuild, the Convention is a pivotal moment for the union, as delegates set out to define the APTS’s strategic orientations in a challenging political and social climate.
“The public system is stretched to the breaking point,” said Robert Comeau. “What we need is to strengthen it, not dismantle it. Every cut, every move toward privatization is a setback for services to Quebecers. If the government wants to slash services, roll out the red carpet for the private sector and trample workers’ rights and freedoms, it will find us standing in its way.”

The Executive Committee’s mission will be to ensure that the voices of the 68,000 APTS members are heard at a time when the health and social services system is facing serious challenges: growing centralization, budget cuts, the privatization of care and attacks on the fundamental rights of workers. Now more than ever, the APTS intends to play its role as an agent of social change by defending a fully public, accessible system that provides high-quality care and responds to people’s needs.
