From April 12 to 18, the APTS is celebrating the indispensable work of thousands of professionals, technicians and technologists who work in medical labs in the public system. Often working behind the scenes, laboratory employees play a central role in the health care system, with more than 85% of diagnoses relying on lab analyses.
As part of this week of recognition, the APTS proposes four essential areas of intervention to ensure the future of medical labs in the public system.
- Fully recognizing employee expertise, valuing their contribution and getting their input about how work is organized.
- Rebalancing workloads in the face of excessive centralization, which weakens teams and worsens the labour shortage.
- Ensuring safe work environments and equipment, despite aging infrastructure.
- Improving conditions to retain and attract employees, in the face of growing competition from the private sector.
