Québec is facing a systemic crisis fuelled by decades of underfunding, centralization and privatization. It’s time to change course – and we have bold, concrete solutions to suggest in order to put the public system back on an even keel. We’ll be presenting a new idea every month until the day of the provincial election on October 5, 2026.

A BOLD IDEA FOR MARCH

For years we’ve been told that there isn’t enough money to fund the health and social services system appropriately. And yet, the wealth is there, it’s just concentrated in the hands of a tiny minority whose enormous fortunes contribute very little. Meanwhile, the health and social services system lacks resources, employees are exhausted and services are slow to materialize.

In 2026, the APTS is proposing a clear solution: asking the super rich to make a minimal contribution to ensure our public system has stable, appropriate funding. It’s a simple, fair and entirely feasible measure to make health a real priority.

Tax the super rich: why and how?

Tax the super-rich: Who are we talking about?

Meanwhile, in medical imaging...

In the health and social services system, we’re constantly told to tighten our belts, but never to go after the money where it can actually be found. In medical imaging, old machines are breaking down while new equipment is just sitting in storage because there’s no funding to install it. Rooms are closing, waiting lists are growing and teams are scrambling to keep everything running. Taxing the richest members of society to fund technical medical departments that are up to standard seems reasonable to me. If the parties keep undermining our health and social services system instead of making sure that those who can afford it pay their fair share, they won’t be getting my vote on October 5. – Marie-Ève Breton, Mascouche
